A teacher can transform your life #HappyTeachersDay

Simple Indian Mom
During childhood, we usually trust and respect our parents and then our teachers than anyone else. Their teachings have more impact on our lives even at later stages. This quote beautifully explains what a good teacher does.

I was shy, self-centered and narrow-minded in my childhood. There was one teacher, Mrs.Radhamani in my high school. She was our Telugu teacher. She was very strict and we were scared of not answering any question in her class. Once, she chose me for a red cross camp in Shimla and I was too scared to go for that camp and stay 15 days away from home. I never stayed away from home till that point but agreed because of my parents' encouragement. I knew her only as a strict teacher till I went to the camp, but my perspective about her completely changed when I returned. She was caring to all of the students, she loved us, she made us comfortable, encouraged us to participate in many events in the camp, she appreciated our every small effort, helped us to overcome our fears. I remembered giving a speech for the first time in my life before a bigger audience because of her encouragement. My Favourite teacher is no more but I believe, her blessings are with me.

Sometimes, we don't even know what we can achieve in our lives until our parents/ teachers/ friends encourage us to take the first step to overcome our fears. The first step to overcome our fears is very important, right? I could take that step and change myself because of my teacher. It sure changed my life for the better.

Do you have any such memories about your teacher? Please do share in comments.

Happy Teacher's day to all the great teachers. We are what we are now because of you.

Until next time,

  1. Oh that teacher for me would have to be my English Communications professor during my MBA.

She made us write our own eulogy and present it to the class, and the way she guided and handled the session is something I can never forget.

It's been over 10 years, and yet I remember that day, and that experience vividly, as if it happened yesterday.

Isn't it amazing how our teachers have taught us some incredible life lessons — that we can all reflect on today and say how fortunate we were? And we always take them for granted, don't we? I have summed up my memories of my favourite teachers as a special Gratitude post for today. Do drop by and read it here:https://blogsbyesha.wordpress.com/2017/09/05/gratitude-on-teachers-day/

  5. Hi Ramya! What an honest and beautiful post. It takes a lot to admit your failings in public. I was blown away at Í was shy, self-centered and narrow minded in childhood´. It takes a lot of courage to look at one´s failings with an objective perspective and even more so, admitting it so publicly. I loved the honesty all through out the post. You laid out your vulnerabilities and failings in a natural way. I agree when you say, it takes a parent, teacher or well wisher to overcome your fears and show you how wrong you were about your limitations. Ah! The endless possibilties for teachers....I absolutely loved this one. Will keep coming back for more. Keep writing. I invite you to take a look at my blogpsots at https://thetinaedit.com/. Love and God Bless

  6. For me a memorable teacher has been my Interiors teacher at the college who was very progressive and encouraged all of us to achieve to our potential. Once I got upset with her for awarding almost the same marks on a home work assignment to me and another girl whose paper was really not that great. She very patiently explained to me that the other girl had done her best - she doesnt have it in her to do any better than this and has reached here after a lot of practice. Whereas in my case, she was sure I hadnt put my heart into it as my best is much better than this.
I was stunned by her and after this never ever again questioned her on this but made it upto myself to work harder on all my assignments - upto her level of expectations!!

  7. We know so little of our teachers, isn't it? Most of them have completely different personalities outside the classroom. You were lucky to have gotten to know yours.

  9. Memories of those teachers who were a little more than just teaching the subjects and setting exam papers are the sweetest memories. I have deep respects for my Sanskrit teacher from 10th Std. There were many others too and I remember most of them.

  13. Your post reminded me of my telugu teacher when i was in 6th standard. I used to excel in all subjects except telugu and the punishments used to scare me a lot. My dad even changed me to different school because of that! Now after reading this post i feel like even my teacher might not have been so strict like she seemed...

  14. I was a very shy person. When I started college, I changed completely. I owe this to my friends at college. They motivated me to let go of my inhibitions. So they were my teachers.
