A teacher can transform your life #HappyTeachersDay

Simple Indian Mom
During childhood, we usually trust and respect our parents and then our teachers than anyone else. Their teachings have more impact on our lives even at later stages. This quote beautifully explains what a good teacher does.

I was shy, self-centered and narrow-minded in my childhood. There was one teacher, Mrs.Radhamani in my high school. She was our Telugu teacher. She was very strict and we were scared of not answering any question in her class. Once, she chose me for a red cross camp in Shimla and I was too scared to go for that camp and stay 15 days away from home. I never stayed away from home till that point but agreed because of my parents' encouragement. I knew her only as a strict teacher till I went to the camp, but my perspective about her completely changed when I returned. She was caring to all of the students, she loved us, she made us comfortable, encouraged us to participate in many events in the camp, she appreciated our every small effort, helped us to overcome our fears. I remembered giving a speech for the first time in my life before a bigger audience because of her encouragement. My Favourite teacher is no more but I believe, her blessings are with me.

Sometimes, we don't even know what we can achieve in our lives until our parents/ teachers/ friends encourage us to take the first step to overcome our fears. The first step to overcome our fears is very important, right? I could take that step and change myself because of my teacher. It sure changed my life for the better.

Do you have any such memories about your teacher? Please do share in comments.

Happy Teacher's day to all the great teachers. We are what we are now because of you.

Until next time,

The Royal Roommate by PG Van - [Book Review]

THE ROYAL ROOMMATE
by
P.G.Van

Blurb
My purpose in life is to protect you…

Sid is Army strong and sinfully sexy. He is tasked to investigate a woman suspected of having connections with a rebel group. The style of investigation was not his choice, and he is asked to move in as the roommate of the person of interest, Amy.
Amy was thrilled to start her internship in San Francisco and wasn’t expecting a man with rock-solid abs as her roommate. The moment she laid eyes on him, she knew he was bad news.

The attraction was undeniable and they both wondered how long they could hold on to their resolve. Sid didn’t want to sleep with a suspect even if she was wildly beautiful and sexy. Amy wasn’t interested in a fling.

Just when Sid is about close his investigation and declare Amy’s innocence, he finds out something about her that changes everything. She becomes the most important person in his life.

My Review
By reading the blurb, I expected it to be a wild romance but the plot is unique too. The plot is not very beleivable with some logical gaps but it has enough twists and turns to get us glued to the book. Both Sid and Amy are 'near to perfect ' characters - kind, caring, smart, sexy and lovable. I like how the story unravels slowly in bits and pieces making the reader to think and complete the puzzle. The pace is good and i felt, it's not too fast or slow.

What i liked most are the twists and turns in the story and the romance of the couple.

I didn't like the climax as it is very predictable for me. I felt, there are some gaps in the story or a few things which are not very comvincing. Amy being a teenager don't upload any of her photos in social media, always has high security at home, her driving license doesn't show her clear face and there are no pictures of her in albums at home. Still, she doesn't doubt the intention of her parents. While her uncle protects her this much, he doesn't worry much when she has to stay with a complete stranger. Amy and Sid's relation seems to be more based on attraction to each other than love for each other. They trust each other very quickly than that is expected in real life.

The title and cover seems fine. The narration is casual and friendly with a bit of humour in the middle. Overall, It's a nice story with twists and romance.

My Rating : 3.5/5
Ps: I have received thisbook from The Book club for review and this is my honest opinion on the book.

3 judgements which gave a hope to Indians #WATWB

I don't follow politics very closely. Like many other Indians, i too didn't have much hope on Indian judicial system with many pending cases and delays in judgement. But, i have read this article and following the news related to these today which gave me a hope for better India.

There are 3 landmark judgements happened recently -
1. Triple talaq made unlawful
2. Right to privacy is made a fundamental right
3. Self proclaimed Godman Ramrahim convicted of rape

Read the article here.

What do you feel about these judgements? Do let me know in comments.

A 2 day trip to Rocky mountain national park, CO, USA - #Day1

The Rocky mountain national park is one of the most visited parks in North America for it's natural beauty. It is spread across the area of around 76 miles protecting the mountains, forests and alpine tundra. Estes Park is the main town to stay and visit the park. The park is famous for scenic trail ridge road and old fall river road.
The trail ridge road

This park has more than 300 miles of hiking trails with extraordinary views of valleys, lakes and mountain peaks. That's why 2 days is not enough to walk all trails. Since we traveled with a 2-year-old kid, we had to select good but easy trails.
A view from scenic drive

Our day 1 trip started from Colorado Springs in the morning to Estes Park. We started at around 9 am and reached Estes park by 11 am. There is a queue to buy the entry pass to the park and so, we got delayed a bit. We got refreshed in the visitor center and started our drive on scenic trail ridge road.
Spotted a buck!

The trail ridge road is a 48-mile stretch connecting Estes Park to the Grand Lake. The scenery is extraordinary and the road took us to an altitude of around 14000 ft. The view of snow capped mountains and valleys is breathtaking. The speed limit is around 20 mph, there are many places to stop by and enjoy amazing views. We can also watch continental divide at one viewpoint.
A frozen lake in summer!

We reached Grand lake around 3pm. We took lunch at the visitor center. The Grand Lake is the deepest and largest natural lake in Colorado. We enjoyed boating in the lake for an hour. Children enjoyed the boating and the homemade ice cream near the lake.
Grand lake

Adam's falls is just a few minutes from Grand lake. Since we thought it's dangerous to drive on trail ridge road back with less light, we had to return to Estes park by 5 pm. We reached Estes park by 8pm, had dinner and checked into our rooms.
Grand lake

Thus, the first day is spent more on driving and capturing beautiful views. Estes lake near our hotel room is also great and buzzing with many tourists enjoying the Sunset while biking or boating.

Estes Park is a lovely mountain town. The gushing river flowing along the road in the town is wonderful. Read our Day 2 trip details here.
