Gratitude List for Nov 2016 #NaBloPoMo #day30

Yay! So, this is the last day of daily writing challenge in November. It's great to end with a Gratitude post.

The above quote  sums up everything. If we feel happy, positive and thankful, we attract more positive vibrations around us leading to more grateful moments.

Here is my gratitude list for the month of November:

1. Everyday Writing Challenge
I am very grateful that I could complete this challenge. This month is as usual busy with kids, books and home management. Somehow, I could pull through this challenge. Actually, I never wrote on weekends until this month when I took this challenge. I felt lazy on Sundays, but compensated by writing on Mondays :-)

2. Super moon and the first snowfall of the season
Read my post here on the Super moon and the first snowfall of the season. I love nature and I enjoyed watching the super moon and the place covered with a blanket of snow after the first snowfall here in Colorado in this season.

3. Cooking experiments and new Recipes
I am not very confident about my cooking and so, usually do a lot of experiments and fail most of the times:-) Fortunately, all my experiments were successful this month. Tried a simple Pasta/ Spaghetti recipe, learnt to cook Chipotle Rice bowl recently and learnt a lot of soups and salads.

4. Local trips
I have visited some fantastic places this month in Colorado Springs. Garden of the Gods is a natural National landmark with interesting stone formations. We also visited the Prospect Lake in Memorial park, which was fantastic.

5. Flash Fiction and blog hops
Tried my hand on flash fiction and participated in a few blog hops. Though not perfect, this post, which is 100 word post made me happy. I am glad to link up with Menaka and Deepa for #MondayMommyMomments , Amrita and Tina for #ThankfulThursdays and this post for Indispire.

I am very grateful for this month as many unplanned positive things happened. Last, but not the least - I am thankful that I could write everyday in November. What are you thankful for today?

5 simple holiday gift ideas for kids

This post may contain affiliate links, clicking on those links may earn some commission to us without any additional cost to you.

I studied in a Christian missionary school in my childhood and so, the month of December was always a holiday time for us. We used to get at least 10 to 15 days of holidays in December for Christmas before our half yearly exams. Of course, we used to get holidays for Pongal too in January :-)

Gifting is a part of this holiday season. Even in our office we play Secret Santa and give gifts to our colleagues. When it comes to kids, the first gift that comes to our mind is toys. Other than that, what else can be interesting to them? Here are a few ideas that I have.. Let me know if you have any other good gifting ideas for kids.

1. Arts and crafts material

Quilling kits might find useful for kids above 6 years of age, but crayons and painting books/ books with stickers are useful for kids below 6 years of age. A gift set with a combination of pencils, crayons, colouring books, markers, fabric colours and erasers will be the best option.

 2. Outdoor gaming kits
Though a little expensive, a bike, skating board, tricycle etc are good gifts for kids.  Both boys and girls would enjoy this. Another option would be to buy a trampoline (quite expensive), a flying disc like frisbee, a ball etc.,

3. Indoor playing kits

I love purchasing building blocks and board games. Board games like chinese checkers, Ludo, Monopoly, Snake and ladder, Brainvita etc., are very old traditional games which engage them for a long time. For children below 5 years of age and above 2 years, clay modeling kits are a good option.

4. Books
Please don't buy any serious books for children. First of all, it's difficult to make them read for a long time. So, Board books with pop-ups or interactive options are good for children below 3 years of age.  Some story books include stickers, fun quiz, coloring, and craft activities. These are good bets for me to gift for younger children.

5. Others

There are many things that kids use in day to day like lunch boxes, school bag, vibrant water bottles, a cozy pillow, a blanket with their favorite cartoon character, a night dress with their favorite designs etc., These items are easy to select and are very useful on a long run.

Maven - An App for Women's health #NaBloPoMo #day28

We women, go through a lot physically and emotionally from puberty through pregnancy, child-birth and menopause. We have a lot of questions and confusions in our mind regarding our health and the changes in our bodies and our hormones.

Thank God, we have a friend called Google. We use Google to clarify some doubts which we might feel shy to discuss with mom/friend/ spouse / doctor. But, How much can we rely on the information that we get from the internet? How do we know which article is genuine and which article is a fake information? Here comes the problem.

That's how I found this app called 'Maven'. This is a trusted source for our health problems. I had my first free video appointment of 20 mins with a nutritionist and the experience was great. The doctor was friendly and it was a better experience to speak to the doctor directly instead of searching answers in Google.

Maven is the first digital clinic for women. On Maven, we can access vetted health and wellness providers via video and private message. We can get our questions answered, or get a prescription. The network of providers includes nurse practitioners, OB/ GYNs, pediatric nurse practitioners, nutritionists, physical therapists, mental health specialists and pregnancy specialists like doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, and more.

We don’t need any insurance in the US to try Maven (appointments are generally cheaper than a co-pay) but if we get a prescription, it’s covered by the insurance!

Appointments range from $18 for 10 minutes with a nurse practitioner, $35 for 10 minutes with a doctor, $25 for 20 minutes with a nutritionist, physical therapist, lactation consultant, or doula, or $70 for 40 minutes with a mental health specialist. If we don't see enough practitioners in our area, we can select anonymous to book an education-only appointment.

As of now, Maven is available on desktop/ laptop and any IOS device. It is yet to be implemented on android.

You can install the app and use my referral code 'MAHATIVIP' to get a first free appointment worth $25 value. Anyone that uses the code will also receive a limited-edition Maven swag bag that includes a Maven tote, water bottle, notebook, pen, stickers and magnets.

So, try the first free video appointment with any doctor as per availability and let me know if it helped.

My philosophy of life #NaBloPoMo #day27

My philosophy in life is simple and that is 'Never worry for anything'.
Source:www.pixabay.com

How can we be cool always? Here is one perspective:

When there are some tough situations to handle and you are in deep worry and confused on how to handle things, think in this way...

1. If you cannot do anything to change the situation or you don't have any control of the situation, you need not worry in the first place. Because, there is nothing you can do to better situation and you are making yourselves sad unnecessarily.

2. If you can change the situation for better and you can control things but just worrying or afraid of something, this is not a time to worry. It is time for action. It is time to react instead of worrying. So, you shouldn't worry in this case too.

I think, for every problem that life gives us, only one of the above options is applicable. So, do it or not, but don't worry about it. What do you think of my opinion? Do let me know in comments.

Until next time,
