Damien Morgan learned a long time ago that love was just a figment of someone’s warped imagination and good girls simply didn’t exist because women were master manipulators. Nonetheless, he’s happy to wish his brother well when he decides to take the plunge.
Serenity Hanscom is shocked that she’s been invited to the wedding a year after her sister played matchmaker for the groom and had an active role in a plot to murder his sister-in-law. Despite the rather unusual circumstances, Serenity accepts the invitation because it’s an opportunity to mingle with Miami’s elites. But the second she catches sight of Damien, she’s reminded of the horrible events that led to her father’s imprisonment, all because of him. Determined to ignore him, as the evening goes by, she finds herself drawn to him more and more.
Will their plan to stay clear of love backfire on them and instead become the first step to an unexpected happily-ever-after?

 Excerpt

This is an UNEDITED sneak peak version!

Once everyone stood up and cheered for the bride and groom's kiss, Serenity sunk in her seat and tried to hide. Her glass was almost empty but it sounded like the ceremony was finished. She stood and joined the crowd of people clapping their hands. Soon, the yacht would return to shore and she'd run.

The bride and groom walked past her fast. The captain said, "Please wait in your seats for five minutes while we transition to the reception. Waiters will offer everyone a glass of champagne for this short intercession."

More champagne might help her survive this. She slumped into her seat and held her hand high to signal she wanted a glass. The waiter handed her glass to the man at the end of the row and her neighbors passed it. Once everyone in her row had a glass, the server moved forward and she nodded her head at the people next to her then took a sip. The champagne tasted sweeter without staring at people her sister almost killed or the man that set her father up. Her skin grew goose bumps and the air grew warmer. There was something tasty in the air itself. A second later, Damien turned around and as he stared at her, he winked, "This will be over soon, sweetheart."

"Don't be sexist." She swallowed her sip and took a deep breath. Damien had no right to say anything like that, to her. She turned her nose in the air. "I'll never be your sweetheart."

"Relax." He then motioned for the man next to him to change seats. Without another word to her, he came and sat beside her. "I'm here to make amends."

"How?" He clicked his glass with hers. She refused to drink and shook her head. "Damien Morgan, that's impossible. You and I can never be friends."

"Why?" He raised his eyebrow.

Tonight he insulted her. Years ago he ruined her life and he had no shame about any of it. She sipped her champagne as steel ran up her spine. "I know who you are and how you knew my father."

He sipped his own glass. "Neither of our father's were boy scouts, sweetheart."

"Perhaps I wasn't clear. Don't patronize me with the nickname 'sweetheart.' It's insulting." Her free hand formed a fist at her side. Damien Morgan was the last person on earth to insult her, again. She knew better than to get riled up. She forced her hand to uncurl itself and gulped another sip. In one minute, she could get up with the crowd and lose Damien.

"I'll happily be your sweetheart."

"Never going to happen." Sometimes she wished she was a guy who could tell another to back away and be respected. She folded her hand over her waist. "Forget this conversation."

"Serenity..."

"Wow." Her eyebrows both raised as she shook her head. "You do know my name?"

"I should not have insulted you earlier. I'm sorry."

"Don't." Sorry echoed in her ear. If it was anyone else, she'd close her eyes, say a prayer and then wish him well. However Damien wasn't anyone else, and he had no idea. She finished her drink and then waved for the waiter to get another. Once she had her drink, she squared her shoulders and stared hard toward the now empty altar. "You didn't know I would walk in on your conversation about me earlier. You didn't know I remembered you at my father's house. And for the record, you say what you want about me. I don't care."

Winter Fun in Steamboat springs, CO, USA #SuperBloggerChallenge2018

I thought I would get bored of snow staying in this mountain state for more than a year. But, there is a lot to see and experience in the Colorado state. Our recent trip to Steamboat Springs is an amazing experience.

Steamboat Springs is a town in Northern Colorado. This place is famous as a home to around 86 Olympic Champions and for its popular ski area. The town also has hot mineral water springs which are known for their therapeutic properties. Yampa River flows through the town and it adds to the beauty of this town which is surrounded by 6 mountain peaks including Mt.Werner.
Steamboat Springs

Here are some winter activities that you can enjoy in Steamboat Springs:

Skiing:
Steamboat Springs is internationally known as the best ski resort destination in winter. The Gondola square at Mt.Werner circle is always crowded with tourists and ski lovers in winter. Steamboat ski resort also offers night skiing.

Snowmobiles:
Snowmobile
Snowmobiling seemed like an adventure for us but it is also a lot of fun. Snowmobile tour of 2 hrs offered by Saddleback ranch is wonderful with fantastic views of the Yampa Valley. The ranch offers tours on private land with well-groomed trails. Being a first timer and not used to riding a bike, I felt slight difficulty in riding but the experience is unforgettable.

Snow Tubing:
This is the best fun kids and adults can have. Rolling down from the peak in snow tubes over snow is a lot of fun. We did snow tubing also from Saddleback ranch and I would say, it seemed safe for even kids and the place is very well maintained. The lodge might have had more food options but everything else is amazing.

Gondola rides:
When you visit any mountain town, a gondola ride cannot be missed. Since this is a popular tourist destination, the restaurant at the top is very much crowded even on weekdays. Gondola ride gave breathtaking views of the Yampa Valley and the snow-covered peaks around. There is a sunset ride as well with dinner for couples.

Mountain Coaster:
We all love the roller coasters. But, what if we have a handbrake in the roller coaster to stop it whenever you want or slow it down a bit and ride it at your ease? Interesting, right? The outlaw mountain coaster is the longest coaster in North America with many curves, 360-degree circles, spirals, dips, turns and even hairpin bends. Since you can control the speed, it is up to you on how fast/ slow you want to ride it.

Hot Springs:
There are two famous hot springs locations near steamboat springs which are known to have therapeutic properties. Oldtown hot springs is a natural hot springs pool which was existing for 100 years with the temperature of water ranging between 80 to 103 degrees Fahrenheit.  The water has several minerals including chloride, sodium, sulfate, silica, and calcium. Some of the minerals are known for their relaxing qualities. Strawberry Park hot springs are also a popular destination with mineral water at 104 degrees which is very relaxing to the body after skiing/ any other snow adventure sports.

Also, check these clothing - optional Hot springs.
Fishcreek falls:
This 280 ft frozen waterfall is wonderful to visit in winter if you have the proper gear to walk on snowy trails. A few people also do ice climbing on the falls in winter. This is one of the most popular tourist destinations in summer.

Thus, Steamboat Springs is a nature lovers paradise and the place is beautiful in winter with snow covered peaks around the town.

If you plan to try any snow adventure sports in Colorado, don't forget this place.

The convention had been long and tiring, and Fiona stifled a yawn. Then she caught the eye of the man in the elevator, the man whom she'd met just hours before, and giggled.

“Long day, eh?” he said.

Jesse Fairlane is missing. Max Larkin and Special Agent Michaels are unsure if this is related to a recent case involving human trafficking or something else. On top of trying to locate his partner, Max has to make a decision as to whether he leaves Rockton to work with the FBI or stays to become captain at the local police department. As Larkin, Michaels, and the other detectives work furiously to find Jesse before it's too late, Max finds himself despairing they'll find her alive. He struggles to maintain his relationship with Veronica and trying to be a friend to Jesse's girlfriend, Melissa, all while following a maze of clues to Jesse..

She stared around, taking in the artwork on the walls, the deep pile of the carpet under her feet, and the shining wood of the doors in the corridor, as the man held his key card against the lock, buzzing them into his suite. The interior astounded her. He'd laughed when she had stoutly declared that she wouldn't go to his hotel room, and now she could see why. This was an entire apartment with no bed in sight to remind her of the things she refused to do on a first date. There were enormous plate-glass windows lording over stylish furniture. A big bowl of fruit sat on the counter of a well-equipped kitchen.

“Wow!” she said, unable to stop herself.

“Quite something, isn't it?” he said. “Glad I’m expensing this rather than footing the bill.”

He was a sales rep, he'd told her. Must be pretty good at his job to merit a hotel like this.

“So, Fiona Turner,” he said, eyes flicking down to the name badge that was still pinned to her chest. “Let me get you a drink. I'd say we deserve one, wouldn't you?”

She nodded and walked to the windows to look out over the glowing city below as he strode to the kitchen area. She heard the pop of a cork as she tried to locate landmarks below her. She felt the cool touch of glass against her hand, and turned to take it from him.

He stood next to her and they sipped while watching the city move toward slumber for the night. At times, she could feel his stare on her in the glass. Whenever she tried to catch him, he would take another sip to hide his eyes.

She wasn't sure when she knew that something was wrong. At first it was nothing, a little blurring around the edges of her vision, a slight dizziness when she went to sit down. Perhaps the wine was hitting her harder than she’d imagined. She shouldn't have skipped lunch to attend that talk. On the other hand, she thought, perhaps she was just dehydrated. She took the last sip of crisp pinot grigio in the stemmed glass. It was the last thing she remembered.

Chapter One

July 23rd 2012 12:35 pm

Dixon City - Suburbs

She had given up on the hope of surviving this.

Perhaps it was hours ago that the switch had been flicked in her brain, but it could have been minutes. It could’ve been days. Anything remaining of Megan’s sanity, that rational part of her that had the ability to form coherent thoughts had dissolved as quickly and completely as a sugar cube in a cup of scalding tea.

The only thing she knew now for sure was pain. It had taken over her mind, hand in hand with a kind of fear that she couldn’t have possibly comprehended before. It was a combination that no one survives to talk about.

Her world had been reduced to the basement she was being held in.

 Beth.

She had assured Megan that the dealer was legitimate. The house had seemed safe enough. Nevertheless, a nervousness had blossomed the moment they stepped off the bus, and it had continued to grow in her stomach with every step the two of them had taken to the address Beth’s new online ‘friend’ had given her.

“C’mon Megan. Don’t be a chicken shit,” Beth had scowled.

Beth was scary when she was mad.

She always had been. Her narrow eyes and wiry red hair gave her an off-putting look that she’d used to her advantage since childhood. Beth had practically dragged Megan up the cracked concrete path that led to the house, her freckled arms so much more powerful.

There had been a dog barking in the background, she could remember that much. For some reason, its yapping had sent warning signals off all through her body, only increasing the tension that was building steadily inside her.

Megan had known that they were risking it by skipping school to buy drugs in the worst part of town. She’d seen enough horror movies to know that this was how all immoral teenage girls were punished. Instead of knocking on the door of a drug house, she should’ve been in first-period biology. But she wasn’t.

She hadn’t wanted to be chicken shit.

Megan blinked at the paneling and matted green carpet that decorated her prison. Beth had escaped. Of course she had, she had always been the stronger one. Thick boned and fearless like some kind of suburban Viking.

It hadn’t come as a shock at all when, through eyes clouded with tears, she saw Beth begin to successfully loosen her wrist bonds. Her skin had torn from the rope, and the blood that coated her hands like red satin gloves eventually helped her to slide free.

Beth hadn’t looked back at her when she slipped through the basement window. Her face had been so transformed with fear and outright panic that she looked more like a wild animal than a human.

It had been when Megan helplessly watched the soles of Beth’s sneakers disappearing through the casement window that the rational part of her mind had broken.

Two girls never escaped. There was always one left behind.

There was always one set of parents collapsing with grief in the background while the survivor’s family turned their elated smiles to the news cameras.

Megan Coogan, who had willingly allowed Beth to cheat off her in school almost daily. Megan Coogan, who had lied to Beth’s parents so that their daughter could make out with some nameless boy in the dusty corner of a playground.

That Beth would carry on, finish school, get married, get a job, maybe even have kids.

Megan Coogan would never leave this basement.

The sound of footsteps on the creaking stairs sent a surge of adrenaline through Megan’s system, drowning out her thoughts and causing her limbs to go rigid. Breathing heavily, she listened to the wood groan as he moved slowly down the steps, as if deep in thought.

The door opened carefully, and he stepped in the room.

Purchase from Amazon UK

My Review:

This is the first cookbook that I am reviewing. I have read a few cookbooks after my studies but they were all in the text without images and were not interesting.

"Comfort food" book has a lot of recipes starting from soups, salads to main course and desserts. The pictures are stunning as well. All recipes are categorized and ordered to start with soups, continuing with the main course and ending with desserts. There are good options to try even for vegetarians. Some recipes have a foreword on how the author got the recipe idea, her inspiration or her thoughts on customizing the recipe for a specific taste.

I loved the soups and desserts section a lot. There are also some easy dinner recipes and all seem to be nutritious and not of diet type. I would like to try Potato pancakes and some other special dishes like Orange and coconut cupcakes, Mars Bar brownie and easy biscuits. There is a section of recipes specifically from England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.

One thing I didn't like is that there are some ingredients in recipes which are not commonly used/ available in the USA but only at specific places. The author might have mentioned a brief about these ingredients. I had to search on Google for these.  Even though the description is clear, it would have been effective if the steps are numbered or formatted in bullets.

Overall, a good cookbook with a variety of recipes and I recommend this to food lovers who like to try a variety of recipes.

My Rating: 4/5

PS: I have received this book from the author through Rachel's Random resources book tours and this is my honest opinion on the book.

About the author:

Growing up in Wellington, New Zealand, British born Julia Bettelheim enjoyed an early start in the catering industry and as a teenager took lessons from a private chef. Her family then moved to Melbourne, Australia where she lived for the next twenty-two years and worked as a tupperware sales representative travelling the city providing cookery demonstrations and sharing recipes that were suitable for storing. After her divorce in 2008, Julia moved back to England where she now lives in Chatham, Kent and works as a chef in the kitchen of the cafe at UCL in London.

Excerpt

Introduction

My name is Tony and I started this journey at 175kgs.

Today I am 95kgs and hold multiple titles in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

This book details how I accomplished that, my mental outlook and changes, my failures and successes. It will show you a way to duplicate this yourself, breaking it into multiple small actions. Depending on where you are on your trek, you may have already accomplished some of the early steps; if so, fantastic. Congratulations on getting that far. This book will help you understand what you have already achieved, and show you how to take it further.

Chances are if you are reading this book then you have struggled with losing weight, or want to see a boost to your motivation in other areas of your life. As someone that has been where you are, and cut a path through the tangled mess that is the weight loss industry, I understand you. This is where my book is different than a lot of others out there. Many programs are great at using weight loss science, but are usually written by people already fit and healthy that have never been more than a few kilos overweight.

They don’t understand the mental state many people start with, especially when severely overweight as I was. They have never been fat, never been ridiculed for their obesity. Never avoided pools or the beach because they’d have to take off t-shirts and reveal the true extent of their girth. I am thankful that these health professionals spent time with their research so I could learn. But how could they help address my mental and social issues that contributed to my weight gain, when they couldn’t understand them?

A psychologist is needed in many cases. I don’t pretend to be one and I’ve never felt the need to utilise their services. I have known many people that have, and can see the positive impact it made on their lives. I have however researched psychology and as I’ve lived through it I know a lot about the thought process that goes with obesity. That insight drives many parts of this book.

I am also a certified life coach, a field of study that assists people moving their lives from point A to point B. Even if they are unaware of how to do so, or that point B is even within their reach. Many steps in this book work in unison with the tools and techniques utilised in coaching. They will work without it, though will be greatly enhanced with a life coach by your side.

What I aim to do here is not only show you my meal changes and exercise regime, but also show how my mental state altered. I'll share how I overcame my negative thoughts and barrelled through plateaus.

I gained all of this knowledge through a thirst for understanding. As my wife will attest, I absolutely must know everything even if it doesn't concern me. It's my nature. I can blame and thank my parents for this. As a child I hungered for understanding and often asked questions of how and why. Before long I was asking things they didn't know the answer to. Instead of dismissing it or making something up, my parents instilled in me a simple mantra: look it up.

This was long before the Internet became popular and ubiquitous so all I had was a dictionary, an odd assortment of encyclopaedias and the school library. The skills and knowledge gained were invaluable and formed my love of words and reading.

The Internet exploded my world and now the guys I train with often refer to me as Google, as I generally have the answer or insight required for the topic at hand.

So when I turned this skill to weight loss my bull-crap detector worked overtime. I tried several diets that I fully understood the science of, but ultimately they failed because they didn't take into account the psychological impact. They also failed to understand the starting point that a lot of overweight people find themselves in.

My meals consisted of mostly eating take-out, snacking on chocolate and washing it down with litres of soft drinks and tubs of ice-cream. You can't instantly go from that to fresh fruit and veggies, healthy snacks and controlled portions. That is why the majority of diets fail and are a waste of your time.

I want to mention right off the bat that this is not a diet book. To me, a diet is a short-term change to reach a desired goal in less than two months. This journey took me nearly a decade and I am still changing things to get better results. It took that long because of all the trial and error, the research required and figuring how to alter the mental conditioning I'd spent nearly three decades building.

I can guide you into doing this far quicker, though I expect it to take years, not months. Lasting change takes time but if you follow the ideas and plans in this book, then you will see some quick results.

I am not a medical professional so I implore you, if you have any conditions or food intolerances then seek their expert advice first. Everything in here works for me, but my body is not the same as yours. I am living proof that the process works, and should work for the majority, however your life is unique and nothing can take everything into account. Even so, everyone can gain some benefit from a lot of these pages.

I'm looking forward to helping you achieve your goals.

3 Simple habits for good health #SuperBloggerChallenge2018

We are living in a busy world. While we are running behind work, family and other responsibilities, it is becoming difficult to concentrate on our health. We heard from our childhood that Health is wealth. So, NOW is the right time to take care of our health and take even baby steps towards a better life.

The image shows basic and simple health tips. Eating healthy, sleeping well, drinking required water, being active, and loving our bodies is quite important to be healthy.

It is difficult to follow all the above in a busy schedule. So, I have introduced 3 habits into my routine keeping these tips in mind.

Pin it for later!

1. Green Tea

Green Tea is more than a normal tea. It provides anti-inflammatory and anti-carcinogenic effects. It is loaded with antioxidants and nutrients.

I am trying to have green tea at least once a day. I aim to increase the intake to 2 to 3 times if possible. But, I cannot have green tea on an empty stomach.

Even as per Japanese, having even warm water after meals is good for digestion. So, I started taking green tea after lunch as of now. This is a simple habit to start, right? Doesn't take much effort.

2. Being active for 20 mins a day

Even though doctors recommend more exercise time per day, I feel, it is good to set a small goal of being active for 20 mins a day. Be it as simple as brisk walking/jogging/ treadmill etc.,

I sometimes, walk in the afternoon at home while reading a book when I cannot go out due to weather or some other work.

www.pixabay.com

3. Eating healthy

We all know that we should eat healthily. But, to keep this in our mind daily, I suggest setting a goal to eat one healthy item per day. It is not tough to eat leafy vegetables twice a week, chicken/ dal for protein twice a week, An egg thrice a week, A glass of milk daily and any fruit once a day.

So, just watch your diet and try to include one healthy food every day. Simple, right?

So, what do you say? Are these simple baby steps good to plan for better health?

Do let me know in the comments.

Until next time,
