My Review:

This is my second book of Lincoln Cole. I loved the first one that I read  - "Raven's Peak" and had high expectations from the author. I love this genre too - occult, paranormal and horror. This is an amazing read which kept me hooked to the book till the end.

Father Paladina reaches a small town in Washington state from Vatican to investigate an issue reported by Father Reynolds requesting a person to perform an exorcism on Rose who he thinks is possessed and needs help. Father Paladina though studied exorcism at Vatican, never dealt a possessed person by himself. He didn't believe that Reynolds really telling the truth. So, he meets Reynolds with his belief that no paranormal activity exists in Everett. He observes strange behavior in some people in Everett and also experiences some paranormal presence but brushes it off thinking as his imagination. When he has to fight the possessed persons directly, can he perform an exorcism without being scared? Who is behind all this strange behavior and possessions in Everett? You have to read this book to get answers.

I loved the narration and characterization a lot.  The prologue intrigues the readers and makes them read the story. The only thing that irks me about the book is that there are many parts/ scenes which are repeated to connect the dots or to make us understand the connection, which I felt are unnecessary. This is the first part of a series and I don't like reading books in a series as it's not possible for me to read all one after the other due to time constraints. But, this is stand-alone novel and good to read just this part. The transformation of the character 'Father Paladina' is great from not believing ghosts to acting bravely when required when encountered with a real ghost.  The pace of the book is slow till half but picks up speed in the latter half. The cover is great and the title is apt.

I recommend this to all horror, paranormal and occult lovers.

My Rating: 4.5/5

PS: I have received an ARC from the author for review and this is my honest opinion on the book.

This sounds like a very exciting story, especially the second half of the book.
