Blurb:

Satan was once a mortal shepherd, but through a tragic series of events he became the icy hearted angel of the damned. Aleister Crowley creates an astral doll in the shape of a child and forces it to live on as a double of himself. A mortal woman falls in love with a demon. A new angel is born in Hell.

Excerpt:

Crowley turned to the creature, and said-

"Now that the festivities have ended, we have work to do." He put on a dark blue silken robe and a peculiar hat, pulled out what appeared to be blueprints, and opened them up on his desk. The creature took a peak, but hadn't the faintest idea what any of the symbols or drawings meant. Its master turned to it and said-

"I believe you are like some kind of astral automata, and that I was the one who created and arranged your clockwork, but I made you far too simple, in large part because I didn't realize what I was doing at the time." Crowley cut out another line of his magical white powder, and said-

"It's no good, going to the trouble of teaching you to read my books if you can't remember them, so I do believe I've figured out how to improve your mechanisms. By my own operations, I will transform you from a wind-up doll to something with a level of complexity akin to a motor car."

The Everette Exorcism by Lincoln Cole - [Book Review]

Book Details:
Title : The Everett Exorcism
Author: Lincoln Cole
Publisher : Lincoln Cole Publishing
Genre: Occult, horror, mystery, Paranormal
Length: 232 pages
Source: A free advanced review copy from the author for review

Blurb:
Something strange is happening in the city of Everett, Washington and Father Niccolo Paladina is tasked with investigating the possible demonic activity. Nothing is as it seems, however, and things quickly begin spiraling out of his control.

When his path crosses with that of an old rival, they discover that things are worse in Everett than either of them could ever have imagined. As his world collapses around him, Niccolo will be left with one terrible question: what is my faith worth?

My Review:

This is my second book of Lincoln Cole. I loved the first one that I read  - "Raven's Peak" and had high expectations from the author. I love this genre too - occult, paranormal and horror. This is an amazing read which kept me hooked to the book till the end.

Father Paladina reaches a small town in Washington state from Vatican to investigate an issue reported by Father Reynolds requesting a person to perform an exorcism on Rose who he thinks is possessed and needs help. Father Paladina though studied exorcism at Vatican, never dealt a possessed person by himself. He didn't believe that Reynolds really telling the truth. So, he meets Reynolds with his belief that no paranormal activity exists in Everett. He observes strange behavior in some people in Everett and also experiences some paranormal presence but brushes it off thinking as his imagination. When he has to fight the possessed persons directly, can he perform an exorcism without being scared? Who is behind all this strange behavior and possessions in Everett? You have to read this book to get answers.

I loved the narration and characterization a lot.  The prologue intrigues the readers and makes them read the story. The only thing that irks me about the book is that there are many parts/ scenes which are repeated to connect the dots or to make us understand the connection, which I felt are unnecessary. This is the first part of a series and I don't like reading books in a series as it's not possible for me to read all one after the other due to time constraints. But, this is stand-alone novel and good to read just this part. The transformation of the character 'Father Paladina' is great from not believing ghosts to acting bravely when required when encountered with a real ghost.  The pace of the book is slow till half but picks up speed in the latter half. The cover is great and the title is apt.

I recommend this to all horror, paranormal and occult lovers.

My Rating: 4.5/5

PS: I have received an ARC from the author for review and this is my honest opinion on the book.

My Review:
This is my first e-book review and i like this genre - horror very much. So, Iam all excited to review this book :-)

2 stories start in parallel - one about occult writer Aengun Adams and another about Johan a Norwegian ex-military person. The writing style seemed simple and easy to understand and I could complete reading quick. But, at some places I felt, editing / proofing can be better as I observed some spelling mistakes. Story wise /about the thrill factor, I don't have any complaint, as I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Initially, reader might not understand how these parallel stories connect, which is good to keep suspense factor. There are some gory rituals mentioned in the book, but of course they should be part of an occult suspense. Overall, a good read for me.

My rating: 3/5
I would suggest this book to readers who love horror and occult genre.
