Akshaya Patra foundation

If you have been following my blog recently, you would know that I am preparing gratitude list from past 2 months here and here and it feels very good doing that. These lists show how grateful I am to have a comfortable life.

By God's grace, many of us are fortunate to have good food, health and happiness. There are many in our world who are deprived of their basic needs like food, clothing and shelter. When I think of donating to some charity, I would select one which will provide these basic necessities to deprived people. When I choose some charity, I would like to know how my money will be spent or utilized. If this information is not given by the charity, my sole intention of helping someone cannot be satisfied.
These days, many organizations are collaborating with NGOs to improve the society and people around us through corporate social responsibility programs. Even I participated in many such social responsible events, but choosing a right transparent NGO is becoming tough.

Stumbled upon this site - Akshaya Patra foundation and did some research online about its transparency. Could find only positive reviews without negativity and so, would like to share the information on this foundation here to spread a word.

Akshaya Patra foundation is a non-profit organization headquartered in Benguluru, India. This organization is found from the inspiration of Shri Prabhupada and it strives to fight issues like hunger and malnutrition in children in India. By implementing mid-day meal schemes in government schools and government-aided schools, it is not only feeding hungry children but also encouraging them to come to school. Isn't it good?

A simple calculation in the site shows how just Rs.750/- can feed a child for a complete year. It also mentions clearly the segregation of money on different expenses like program management, fund raising and communication etc., Please do check this site and donate, if you feel, it's worth to spend money on this noble cause.

Hooray, it is finally release day for Nacreous! Thanks for stopping by the fabulous Release Day Blitz, organized by b00k r3vi3w Tours. To kick off the blitz, here are a couple of “Fun Facts” about author's writing process… I hope you enjoy!

From Sarah Elle Emm:

Writing Playlist:

So…Music. Some authors swear by it. They have their playlist set in the background while they pen their latest manuscript. Me? Not exactly. Music is very important to me. I believe in dance parties, and by dance parties I mean cranking up my I-pod to the music fitting my mood, be this salsa, classic rock, blues, country, classical, whatever, and dancing alone in my room or kitchen. (Yes, I said classical and country in the same list). My kids may or may not be in attendance. They like to watch and laugh. Sometimes, they join in. But as far as my writing process goes, the music is sort of my warm up. So I might turn on some music that fits my mood for parts of the story and listen to it in my car or at my desk before I write, but not while I am actually writing. I need it to be quiet in the room, so I can tell the story…(Ahem, hear what my characters are trying to tell me). ;) While I wrote Nacreous, and the other books in the Harmony Run Series, my favorite music warm-up to set the mood was Lorde. Specifically, the songs Team and A World Alone. In fact, if any of the books from my series could be made for film, I would beg producers to include one of those songs in the movies.

My Writing Process:

I can’t sit down and force myself to write everyday because it begins to feel too mechanical, but I am definitely one of those people who thinks about writing, story ideas, characters, scenarios all of the time, awake or asleep. I love using my dreams in my writing and have written a few of them into scenes in the Harmony Run Series. Back in college, the good ol’ stone ages, I had one of the most terrifying dreams of my life about a man with a triangular-shaped eye chasing me down a corridor, one door after the other, with this woman’s voice echoing all around us, telling him to kill me. When I got to the end of the corridor, I opened the last door, and he was standing there facing me. I woke up sobbing…About a year later, a psychology professor at my university asked some of us to share dreams with him so he could demonstrate dream analysis. I bravely raised my hand, (this was huge for me, since I am very shy in person), and shared my dream in vivid detail. After I finished talking, the entire class got eerily quiet and the professor told me I was dealing with issues beyond his realm of help, and went on to the next student’s dream. That student shared a dream about not being able to make a goal in a soccer match, and the professor dissected his dream in depth for fifteen minutes. Years later, I incorporated that dream, adding on some twists and turns of course, into book one from the Harmony Run Series, Prismatic.

I also come up with ideas when I’m looking out of the kitchen window, when I’m walking, driving, cooking, gardening, taking my kids to martial arts, helping with their homework, basically, every waking moment. I take heaps of notes. I jot notes down for days. And when I’m ready, I sit down and type everything I can. I woke up the other night, and grabbed the notebook and pen beside my bed and wrote down an idea for another story. So my writing process is sort of a twenty-four hour thing. Oh, and probably the most important part of the process…How could I forget? My dog, Shorty, has to harass me to sit in my lap throughout the day. She eventually gives up and sleeps at my feet or nearby. She spares me the occasional glance or sighs every so often when I talk too much. Yes, I like to talk aloud to myself more often than not. If that dog could talk…Well, thankfully that’s not an issue. Here’s a photo of my writing pal…

Isn’t she cute? I hope you stick around to read about Nacreous. I’m going to look up that old psychology professor to see if he wants to read my latest book… ;)

Kemp fort Shiv temple, Benguluru - Important information

I have visited many tourist places in Benguluru and this place tops the list always. I keep it a point to visit 65ft Shiva idol in Kempfort whenever i visit Benguluru. But, my recent visit disappointed me to a great extent that I advice my friends to avoid visiting this place altogether now.

Let me tell you good things first.
This place is near Kempfort mall in old airport road in Benguluru, Karnataka. 65 feet tall Shiva idol surrounded by Himalayan setting and small pond is serene to look at. It was the best place to spend a peaceful evening. Exhibits of 12 Jyothirlingas arranged in a cave is another attraction.

Now, things that can irritate you in this peaceful place:

1. No transparency in entry fee:
There is no board which mentions the entry fee. Don't get cheated by paying special entry fee ticket of Rs.100/- This wont save at least 10 mins of your time.  In order to show some advantage for special ticket people, they stop normal people and send them slowly even though there is no crowd ahead.

There is a separate ticket after crossing Giant Ganesha idol, Rs.30/- They don't inform it before, so that we will be struck in the queue in the middle of crowd and won't have any option than to say 'YES' and pay.

Charges wont end there yet. There is another ticket of Rs.30/- to visit Cave with 12 jyothirlingas set.

Rs.5/- per pair to store footwear and Rs.35/- for camera are the other tickets that they charge. I think, there are very few who doesn't have camera in their phone now a days. So, they wont leave any chance by asking if you want to use your phone as camera or not. If they give that option, they might lose money right as the ticket is only for camera?

Forgot to tell you.. they mention one pooja package ticket worth Rs.100/- at entrance, I am not sure if they cover both entrance to cave and visiting the idol in that. When i rejected to take that ticket, that lady threatened me that same ticket will cost Rs.250/- inside. Don't get cheated at this point. It is only Rs.60/- inside, so, Iam not sure what she was referring to. I think, they collect money to pray, put coins in the pond and lighting incense stick. Not sure, but please note that everything is commercial here.

2. Suffocating Queue way :
The path for queue way is completely covered, so there is no space for light and air also to enter. They might have set this to keep people not drenching from rain, but it's too much suffocating. It's even dangerous to go with children. The path to enter jyothirlinga cave is very dark and its difficult to walk as steps are also there. They might have arranged lights inside. By the way, they have lights and they didn't switch them On :-)

3. End result?
Yes, the idol is awesome. But, when we went in the evening at 6 Pm, there is very dim light on idol, even though there are focus lights arranged around. All those high focus lights are off adding to inconvenience. You saw the photo right? you can imagine how dim it is. At last, we didn't even get satisfaction of having a good Darshan.

So, end result will be full of negative energy and frustration. On the top of it, they ask you if you can donate to temple while leaving.

My strong suggestion would be to avoid this place for sure if you are going with kids. If not, it's your wish, tolerance, ability to spend, bhakthi and patience.

Anyone of you visited this place recently? would love to know your thoughts :-)

Love or cheating?

Rajesh is madly in love with Keerthi. Days passed by with unlimited calls and special dates. Keerthi also reciprocated her love.

Keerthi met her best friend Shruthi after long time. She is eager to fill her up with updates.

When Rajesh was entering Keethi's home, he couldn't ignore what he overheard.
"Shruthi, I am not serious about Rajesh. He is just like my other boy friends, with whom i can go shopping whenever I want to without paying a penny, get company whenever I am bored."

Rajesh left the place thinking,
I would never forgive her for what she’d done.

About The Author

Shilpa Suraj

Shilpa was a year and a half when she was first introduced to the world of books. Her mother would park her with a picture book on the floor of the kitchen while she finished her cooking for the day. While it’s no longer the kitchen floor, you can still find her tucked away in a cosy nook somewhere with her nose buried in a book. While books in all genres interest her, it was romance that captured her heart. While racing through every romantic fiction book she could beg, borrow or buy, her over active imagination started to work overtime and weave its own stories. Years in the corporate world followed by a stint of entrepreneurship crystallised her belief that all she really wanted to do was give life to the stories bubbling inside of her. She briefly managed to tear herself away from the world of fiction to find her own personal happily ever after and now spends her time happily focusing on the two loves of her life – family and writing romances.

~About the Book~

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Native American

Blurb:

Andy Redfield is a hard-nose real estate developer, trying to settle his father’s estate and locate the treasure that was mentioned in his father’s will. Bernie Harp is a no-nonsense, private investigator, and who specializes in locating lost objects. When Andy hires her to find his dad’s treasure, she anticipates working alone, as was her custom. She communicates this to Andy in no uncertain terms, but Andy was having none of it. If anything, he was more determined than ever to lend his assistance. When finding the treasure becomes more than a routine job, and the presence of a suspicious intruder is discovered, tempers flare and sparks fly. While they have difficulty seeing eye-to-eye, Andy and Bernie agree on one thing: They need to capture the intruder and locate his father’s treasure.
Kicking and screaming, Bernie is forced to accept his presence on the job, even though it was distracting as hell. With them rubbing each other the wrong way, before they know it, the friction they generate turns to love’s golden heat, igniting a fire neither expected, and neither could deny. So, when Bernie unexpectedly disappears, Andy realizes she was more precious to him than all the treasures in the world, and he’d give up anything to find her—anything, including the treasure, only is he prepared for what he finds?

My Review
As mentioned in blurb, it's kind of Mills and boone's love story, where the hero Andy impresses private detective Bernie in first look itself and there is an attraction between them from the starting. Since Andy is boss to Bernie, she tries to supress the emotions as she doesnt want to have a relationship with her boss, but the desire between them is not that easy to go. So, story is about how they couldn't escape from the attraction and desire for each other.

Of course, its steamy and spicy. So, I would recommend this to teenage readers, who might enjoy. One more thing that impressed me is, it's a quick read. I liked the author's writing style, very easy to follow with medium pace. Characterization is great. Would love to read more from this author.
