Kemp fort Shiv temple, Benguluru - Important information

I have visited many tourist places in Benguluru and this place tops the list always. I keep it a point to visit 65ft Shiva idol in Kempfort whenever i visit Benguluru. But, my recent visit disappointed me to a great extent that I advice my friends to avoid visiting this place altogether now.

Let me tell you good things first.
This place is near Kempfort mall in old airport road in Benguluru, Karnataka. 65 feet tall Shiva idol surrounded by Himalayan setting and small pond is serene to look at. It was the best place to spend a peaceful evening. Exhibits of 12 Jyothirlingas arranged in a cave is another attraction.

Now, things that can irritate you in this peaceful place:

1. No transparency in entry fee:
There is no board which mentions the entry fee. Don't get cheated by paying special entry fee ticket of Rs.100/- This wont save at least 10 mins of your time.  In order to show some advantage for special ticket people, they stop normal people and send them slowly even though there is no crowd ahead.

There is a separate ticket after crossing Giant Ganesha idol, Rs.30/- They don't inform it before, so that we will be struck in the queue in the middle of crowd and won't have any option than to say 'YES' and pay.

Charges wont end there yet. There is another ticket of Rs.30/- to visit Cave with 12 jyothirlingas set.

Rs.5/- per pair to store footwear and Rs.35/- for camera are the other tickets that they charge. I think, there are very few who doesn't have camera in their phone now a days. So, they wont leave any chance by asking if you want to use your phone as camera or not. If they give that option, they might lose money right as the ticket is only for camera?

Forgot to tell you.. they mention one pooja package ticket worth Rs.100/- at entrance, I am not sure if they cover both entrance to cave and visiting the idol in that. When i rejected to take that ticket, that lady threatened me that same ticket will cost Rs.250/- inside. Don't get cheated at this point. It is only Rs.60/- inside, so, Iam not sure what she was referring to. I think, they collect money to pray, put coins in the pond and lighting incense stick. Not sure, but please note that everything is commercial here.

2. Suffocating Queue way :
The path for queue way is completely covered, so there is no space for light and air also to enter. They might have set this to keep people not drenching from rain, but it's too much suffocating. It's even dangerous to go with children. The path to enter jyothirlinga cave is very dark and its difficult to walk as steps are also there. They might have arranged lights inside. By the way, they have lights and they didn't switch them On :-)

3. End result?
Yes, the idol is awesome. But, when we went in the evening at 6 Pm, there is very dim light on idol, even though there are focus lights arranged around. All those high focus lights are off adding to inconvenience. You saw the photo right? you can imagine how dim it is. At last, we didn't even get satisfaction of having a good Darshan.

So, end result will be full of negative energy and frustration. On the top of it, they ask you if you can donate to temple while leaving.

My strong suggestion would be to avoid this place for sure if you are going with kids. If not, it's your wish, tolerance, ability to spend, bhakthi and patience.

Anyone of you visited this place recently? would love to know your thoughts :-)

Love or cheating?

Rajesh is madly in love with Keerthi. Days passed by with unlimited calls and special dates. Keerthi also reciprocated her love.

Keerthi met her best friend Shruthi after long time. She is eager to fill her up with updates.

When Rajesh was entering Keethi's home, he couldn't ignore what he overheard.
"Shruthi, I am not serious about Rajesh. He is just like my other boy friends, with whom i can go shopping whenever I want to without paying a penny, get company whenever I am bored."

Rajesh left the place thinking,
I would never forgive her for what she’d done.

About The Author

Shilpa Suraj

Shilpa was a year and a half when she was first introduced to the world of books. Her mother would park her with a picture book on the floor of the kitchen while she finished her cooking for the day. While it’s no longer the kitchen floor, you can still find her tucked away in a cosy nook somewhere with her nose buried in a book. While books in all genres interest her, it was romance that captured her heart. While racing through every romantic fiction book she could beg, borrow or buy, her over active imagination started to work overtime and weave its own stories. Years in the corporate world followed by a stint of entrepreneurship crystallised her belief that all she really wanted to do was give life to the stories bubbling inside of her. She briefly managed to tear herself away from the world of fiction to find her own personal happily ever after and now spends her time happily focusing on the two loves of her life – family and writing romances.

This time, it's a spicy romance ready for review.  I am not much used to e-book reviews, always reviewed hard copies. Let me share my opinion on this e-book.

Note: Received free copy for review from author and this is my honest opinion.

Welcome to my stop on the Review Tour of Golden Heat by Ju Ephraime. This is a spicy romance with an intriguing twist of mystery.

Check out the complete Tour Schedule here

~About the Book~

Genre: Contemporary Romance, Native American

Blurb:

Andy Redfield is a hard-nose real estate developer, trying to settle his father’s estate and locate the treasure that was mentioned in his father’s will. Bernie Harp is a no-nonsense, private investigator, and who specializes in locating lost objects. When Andy hires her to find his dad’s treasure, she anticipates working alone, as was her custom. She communicates this to Andy in no uncertain terms, but Andy was having none of it. If anything, he was more determined than ever to lend his assistance. When finding the treasure becomes more than a routine job, and the presence of a suspicious intruder is discovered, tempers flare and sparks fly. While they have difficulty seeing eye-to-eye, Andy and Bernie agree on one thing: They need to capture the intruder and locate his father’s treasure.
Kicking and screaming, Bernie is forced to accept his presence on the job, even though it was distracting as hell. With them rubbing each other the wrong way, before they know it, the friction they generate turns to love’s golden heat, igniting a fire neither expected, and neither could deny. So, when Bernie unexpectedly disappears, Andy realizes she was more precious to him than all the treasures in the world, and he’d give up anything to find her—anything, including the treasure, only is he prepared for what he finds?

My Review
As mentioned in blurb, it's kind of Mills and boone's love story, where the hero Andy impresses private detective Bernie in first look itself and there is an attraction between them from the starting. Since Andy is boss to Bernie, she tries to supress the emotions as she doesnt want to have a relationship with her boss, but the desire between them is not that easy to go. So, story is about how they couldn't escape from the attraction and desire for each other.

Of course, its steamy and spicy. So, I would recommend this to teenage readers, who might enjoy. One more thing that impressed me is, it's a quick read. I liked the author's writing style, very easy to follow with medium pace. Characterization is great. Would love to read more from this author.

Childhood memories with Television

Childhood memories are sweet. How can we forget silly things done by us when we were immature and did whatever we liked without worrying about how others would think about us?

All other memories kept aside, my memories with television are different altogether.
Those were the days when TV was synonym to Doordarshan channel.

Every Sunday, an award winning regional movie used to come and we used to wait for telugu's turn, it's being our mother tongue. It was more special than going to a theatre as all family members and neighbours used to sit together and watch movie eating snacks in the evening.

I love cartoons and Sunday is special for cartoons. Those days, we didn't have Pogo, Cartoon network etc, which air cartoons whole day. We used to wait for sunday mornings for Talespin, Stone boy, Duck tales etc., Slowly, regional channels like ETv started airing dubbed version of Dennis the menace, Tales spin, Adventures of Tintin etc., We used to watch these in the evenings after coming back from school. I should specially mention 'Stone boy', story was wonderful and mysterious. :-)

How can our generation forget Ramayana and Mahabharata aired on sunday mornings? Each scene and dialogue used to register in our mind and it used to teach us moral values.

Even though we have many channels now, I still miss my favourite cartoons Duck tales and Adventures of Tintin. Animation movie of Tintin has come up few years ago, but it didn't impress me much.

If there is something that this generation is missing, it's lack of physical activity due to too much availability of technology. This generation has soo many options to choose from and so they tend to ignore what is good and confuse on how to utilize time. These days, children have channels playing cartoons whole day, tablets available to play games, DVD players and laptops loaded with multiple animation movies. They need cartoon to eat, drink, sleep, to do homework and what not? These things leave no time for physical play and stress their eyes leading to eye problems at a very young age.

We cannot live in an isolated environment, but parents can give less options to choose from and set time limit for tv and video games. What else can parents do? Any ideas? Please let me know in comments.

Haiku and other Micropoetry by Madhuri Maitra [Book Spotlight]

I am fascinated by this micro poetry recently when i started joining blogging groups and forums. 55 words and 100 words posts which come under flash fiction are interesting to read. Haiku is one such short Japanese traditional poetry. A typical English Haiku is a short poem following the form and style of Japanese Haiku. So, today's giveaway is about the collection of such Haiku. Participate in the #TornadoGiveaway and win book :-)

Name of the Book : HAIKU AND OTHER MICROPOETRY

Author: Madhuri Maitra

The Story:

"A short poem is a drop of the divine, a brief, brilliant flash. An emotion surges, you create an image, and the jewel is born, plucked out of thought-flow, rubbed and polished to its innate glow.

Haiku is like that. Intrinsically beautiful! Some see the beauty and others do not. Moreover, poetry is a personal experience. There’s no saying what will touch the heart, the senses, the brain, and why.

Haiku and Other Micropoetry would appeal to many people who have had idyllic childhoods in a world less crowded; who have enjoyed simple pleasures, or not; who have loved, lost, laughed, cried, danced, achieved, failed, and done everything that life bid them. They have searched for meaning and known the pain of that search. They have allowed themselves to grow with every experience.

Haiku heals. A short verse brings moments of recognition. A lot more can happen within these pages. Haiku and Other Micropoetry will be read by some with love and some with déjà vu. Some will identify with it, some might just toss it aside, and others might carry it around as a favorite dip-into read."

Married for three decades, her prototypical tall, handsome, and sensitive hero-husband still makes her heart skip a beat. Writing about love and happy endings feeds her romantic soul; hearing from her readers thrills her.

Having a mother that read to her, she paid it forward, telling bedtime stories to her sons and nieces until they grew too old too fast. As a reaction to them growing up before she knew what was happening, she began writing for older children, and has published children's books on Amazon, for Kindle.

Breastfeeding tips - World breastfeeding week

First week of August is world breastfeeding week.

As a mother, I understand the confusion and problems of new mothers to start breast feeding. Post-partum stress, new responsibilities, lack of support and lack of sleep might become obstacles to breast feeding. Awareness and motivation from family is the only key.

Here are some tips:

Positive spirit: It's better to know the benefits of breastfeeding before delivery itself. Keeping positive spirit that you can feed your child and milk will be enough is important. Initial obstacles on feeding position and latching of baby are very common and that is nothing to worry about. Trying again and again with patience will solve the problem.

Myth of 'Not Enough milk': This is the most common worry of new mothers that milk is not enough. One good way to go with it is to feed on demand. More latching and bonding with baby enhances milk production hormones and increases supply, so be patient and try to feed as many times as infant needs.

Proper seating position: Learn the proper seating position for feeding. This reduces lot of stress and helps in faster recovery. There is lot of material available on internet on this.

Diet changes: Drinking more water and juices hydrates body. Leave the myths on restricting healthy foods and add fruits, vegetables and nuts in your diet. Garlic and fenugreek seeds are good for increasing milk production.

Be stress free: Being cool without taking much pressure and being close to baby helps in increasing milk production. Watching your baby or listening to a soothing music or thinking of a water fall  while feeding also seems to increase milk production. Try it once :-)

Many of you might already know the benefits of breastfeeding, but let me tell you again..

  • Gives perfect nutrition to your baby
  • Protects baby from many life threatening diseases and obesity
  • Helps in growth and brain development of baby
  • Helps mother in reducing stress and risk of post-partum depression
  • Might reduce risk of some cancers in mother

Please feel free to share and spread awareness on breastfeeding.

Until next time,

Unlock the potential

Srinija was busy as usual with her daily chores from morning.

Now, It's time to sit and relax for some time, sipping coffee and reading news paper after waving good bye to kids and hubby.

Unintentionally, her eyes moved towards her old passport photo from school days which dropped from wallet.

How can she forget school days? Golden memories!
Her academic achievements and awards for writing best articles in school magazines.

Now, she realized that there is one part of her life that she ignored recently, her interest in writing!
Bingo! She decided to unlock her potential in writing again :-)

Small post on #Bahubali #MicroblogMondays

#Bahubali #TeluguMovie
At last, watched the much hyped movie, my thoughts as a small post with max 8 sentences long.

Loved :-)

  • The visuals, waterfalls effects and the model of the Mahishmathi kingdom
  • Absolute delight to ears - soothing music which became part of the story
  • Excellent action and dialogue delivery by Rana and Ramya Krishna
  • War strategy explained in simple way

Didn't like

  • Abrupt ending - didn't see any other sequel movie with this kind of abrupt ending.
  • Bad screenplay, very less conversations and less concentration on story

Mommy guilt

This is the topic that intrigues me a lot. This is the topic mostly talked about in offices by working women. This is the topic which most of the working women take too seriously than required resulting in mental pressure. So, I chose to write on this for my #Mondaymusings! Co-hosting #MondayMusings with Corinne who writes at everydaygyaan and writeTribe.

I love my job a lot. Testing is my passion, in fact. I enjoy working in office. I enjoy taking challenges, completing difficult assignments, networking, coordinating with people to make things work, organizing events, leading and guiding team etc., But, when my first kid was born and I had to leave my kid with a care taker at 6 months of his age, Mommy guilt started. Life was good when he was healthy, laughing, playing and all. But, when he became sick and I had to give instructions to care taker on how to take care of the kid, I felt like I am not a good mother. Yes, I have taken many work from homes, leaves, been with kid at difficult times too, but still, it was not possible always.

Joining the kid to school and then to day care were again tough times to both of us. Making him habituated to stay without me for long time, making him eat properly in my absence, protecting him from frequent colds, coughs and fevers, improving his immunity - all this was a very good learning phase as a mother.

Proper support at home from family made me overcome the guilt and helped me to stay positive. I believe in not taking stress from office to home and vice versa. My poor memory is my bliss. I forget bad experiences quick and like to switch to home mode as i step out of office and don't take that burden to home. Usually, I over compensate on weekends and after work hours by spending more time while feeding my kid or making him do homework. Sleeping lullaby in nights, waking up in mornings with cuddles and telling small stories are bonding times :-)

Over the time, I have realized, no one can be perfect in this world. No one can be a perfect mother, perfect wife, perfect employee and all in one. We all try to get there and be somewhere in the middle and it is completely OK than trying to be best out of all, by stressing ourselves. What do you say?

Let me know how do you deal with mommy guilt? Add your links below to join #Monday Musings.
