Rise and Soar Women ! Your life and your choices #HappyWomensDay

************************
I start my day before every one else.
I do all household work and iam happy when the family helps me in regular chores. I take care of the family, make budgets, plan the expenses and take pride in being responsible.

With just appreciation,  love and support of the family, I feel blessed. It's my life and my choice to be a homemaker.

*************************************

Iam passionate towards my work. I love using my skills at work place and go ahead in my career.

Some say, I don't spend more time with my family, some say I am over ambitious,  some see as if it is a sin for a woman to focus on her career. But, I love what I do and iam capable of balancing both work and family.

It's my life and my choice to be a working woman.

***************************************

I am just a 15 year old girl with a lot of dreams and future goals. While relatives saw a girl as burden to the family, my parents are struggling every day to continue my schooling.

I will study hard, get a good job and earn a good position in the society.  I will prove others wrong and make my parents proud.

****************************************

Iam 32 and am proud to be an young entrepreneur. While everyone said, it's time to marry , I decided to focus on my business and iam proud of all my achievements.

It's my life and my choice of putting my ambition before every thing else. Whether I get support or not, I gladly accept and work towards my goals.

******************************************

I too have dreamed of love and marriage like the other girls. But, fate has something else in her mind.

I tried my best to adjust, to tune myself to his interests but cannot lose my self respect and experience abuse in the name of marriage. Even though society outcasted me, I know I can stand on my own shoes and iam happy to be a positive and strong woman.

It's my life and my choice to get a divorce from an abusive relationship.

******************************************
It's not my fault to have born in a poor family but I have to bear the result. I know that my father is already planning to marry me off to a 60 yr old for a huge sum, I have to take a decision against my family.

I ran away from our house and iam lucky to be found by this NGO who is sponsoring my education.

I believe, I have a great future ahead. It's my life and my choice to be brave and to achieve my goals.

******************************************
Dear woman,

Whatever may be your goal, in whatever stage you are, believe in yourself. You are enough! Don't give up. Every step towards the goal counts.

Rise and soar women! Happy women's day 🎉⚘

Until next time,

#BangaloreMolestation What can we do?

After reading the recent incident in Benguluru about Mass molestation of women by drunken men on the new year's eve, every woman in India has got a shocking feeling. We, as women face eve teasing and abuse at least once in our lifetime in India, but we are habituated to either ignore and forget the issue or blame ourselves for being there in that circumstances. But, this time, #LetsSpeakup.

Whatever happened in Benguluru is not correct and we all knew that. But, what can WE do about it and stop the same happening in future? This thought was lingering in my head in the first week of Jan and I was searching for answers by reading a lot of articles on this issue.

What I found and understood is that there are 2 ways to stop this happening in future.

1. Parents educating their Sons to show respect to women
Source:www.pixabay.com

Respect should never be gender biased. Men or women - every human being deserves respect.  Researchers reveal that rapes don't happen because of the dress the women wear or the religion they belong or the specific age group they belong. So, instead of putting restrictions on our daughters, let us teach our sons how to respect women. Let us teach them what consent means. Of course, Fathers play an important role as they are role models to their sons.

We should let our children know that whatever they show in movies mostly is not correct. Even now, a hero in Indian movies wins the heart of heroine by stalking and harassing her in college/ office, which is very impractical and demeaning.

2. Parents training their daughters with self-defence skills

We should raise our daughters more confident, give them enough freedom with responsibilities. We should make them understand that women are not weaker sex when they learn self-defence skills and be confident.

"A Human body can bear only up to 45 del (units) of pain. Yet, at the time of giving birth, a mother feels up to 57 Del (units) of pain. This is similar to 20 bones getting fractured at the same time."

Now, what more proof is needed to show that women are strong physically?

These days, women are working and managing families without much support, handling a lot of stress which is making them strong emotionally as well. So, let us stop retraining our daughters to wear a specific dress or be at home at a specific time but build their confidence to face this world.

What else do you think we can do to prevent these incidents happening again? Please do share your opinion in comments.

Maven - An App for Women's health #NaBloPoMo #day28

We women, go through a lot physically and emotionally from puberty through pregnancy, child-birth and menopause. We have a lot of questions and confusions in our mind regarding our health and the changes in our bodies and our hormones.

Thank God, we have a friend called Google. We use Google to clarify some doubts which we might feel shy to discuss with mom/friend/ spouse / doctor. But, How much can we rely on the information that we get from the internet? How do we know which article is genuine and which article is a fake information? Here comes the problem.

That's how I found this app called 'Maven'. This is a trusted source for our health problems. I had my first free video appointment of 20 mins with a nutritionist and the experience was great. The doctor was friendly and it was a better experience to speak to the doctor directly instead of searching answers in Google.

Maven is the first digital clinic for women. On Maven, we can access vetted health and wellness providers via video and private message. We can get our questions answered, or get a prescription. The network of providers includes nurse practitioners, OB/ GYNs, pediatric nurse practitioners, nutritionists, physical therapists, mental health specialists and pregnancy specialists like doulas, midwives, lactation consultants, and more.

We don’t need any insurance in the US to try Maven (appointments are generally cheaper than a co-pay) but if we get a prescription, it’s covered by the insurance!

Appointments range from $18 for 10 minutes with a nurse practitioner, $35 for 10 minutes with a doctor, $25 for 20 minutes with a nutritionist, physical therapist, lactation consultant, or doula, or $70 for 40 minutes with a mental health specialist. If we don't see enough practitioners in our area, we can select anonymous to book an education-only appointment.

As of now, Maven is available on desktop/ laptop and any IOS device. It is yet to be implemented on android.

You can install the app and use my referral code 'MAHATIVIP' to get a first free appointment worth $25 value. Anyone that uses the code will also receive a limited-edition Maven swag bag that includes a Maven tote, water bottle, notebook, pen, stickers and magnets.

So, try the first free video appointment with any doctor as per availability and let me know if it helped.

Until next time,

It's time to break the taboo of talking about Periods #PeriodPride

Girls and Women face periods every month which is the natural biological change in their body. But, It's a taboo to talk about it in public. Leave about talking, purchasing a sanitary napkin and carrying it uncovered attracts everyone's attention as if the lady is carrying a bomb or pistol in public.

The major concern here is the lack of awareness on periods and menstrual hygiene in girls.  I felt very bad reading from Corinne's blog that 71% girls reported that they were completely  unprepared for their first period. Even, I was one of them and I understand how it feels for the first time. Even though mother helps her daughter to cope up with the situation well, if doubts are not cleared at the right time, young girls get afraid of their body changes and assume many things. At least, we have google now, which is helping many girls to get a basic idea about menstruation and hygiene during periods. But, this information is not completely reliable too.

As it is with pregnancy, the experience during periods also change from a person to person. Severe cramps, heavy bleeding, migraine, body pains, weakness, feeling anaemic etc.,are only some of the problems. My doctor explained me the reason behind the cramps once, but until then, I was afraid of those 5 days. I have discussed with my close friends about the problems during periods and that was one way to understand, share and learn. Who else can a girl talk to about these problems oOther than her mother, siblings, and friends? If those close people don't have enough knowledge, where does she get the awareness from? I feel, it's essential that a few educational sessions should be organized in schools and colleges about the periods, body changes, hygiene etc., Till now I am talking about people like us who have access to education and good schools. But, the girls/ women from less privileged strata of society might not have this awareness and even if they had, the sanitary napkins or other options for menstrual hygiene might not be accessible to them. Naari, a social enterprise working in the space of Menstrual hygiene management is doing a great job in spreading awareness. Their focus is to erase menstrual myths and encourage women to talk about periods with pride. Kudos to the organization.

It's time to break the taboo and start talking about Periods, what say?

Until next time,
