Transition to stay at home mom - WTFOW day #4

This is one of those rants that might bore you.
I have been busy since 2 months and Iam blogging on the go from mobile mostly.

So, what's keeping me busy?

Transition from working mother to stay at home mom

Many doesn't believe me when i say , working and managing 2 kids is easier with some support(maid, cook and day cares) than managing kids all alone at home without any support.

I think, I am still not used to the routine of cooking, cleaning and managing kids. The major difference is that I am missing my 'me' time. I miss those light hearted talks with colleagues at lunch and coffee breaks. I miss the enjoyment of work, meetings, deadlines, pressure etc.,

An emptiness surrounding me
I am not feeling complete by the end of the day. Something is missing. I wanted to do something more than cooking and taking  care of kids. So I do a lot of research on utilizing my time and thus making myself busy and restless. Besides, there is a guilty feeling that I am not engaging kids properly if they watch videos and play games for more time.

I think, I should compromise on not being perfect and think practically on what possibly can be done for my inner peace.
I appreciate if you have come till this line and read my silly blabber.

Did you ever leave work and stayed at home? How did you cope up with this kind of transition?
I will be happy to hear the opinions of other mommy bloggers ☺

Until next time,

  1. I stayed two months at home while looking for work... That was enough to drive me insane and i don't even have kids. What you are growing through is natural as i have heard this from my friends too. I am sure you will soon find an activity of your liking :)

    1. Actually, not one but i found many activities that I like. I cannot do anything due to lack of time. The fussy eating and the mess they create takes up most of my time. May be I should set a routine and find a time for myself.

  2. I'm not a mom, so can't give any advice. But this is something all moms can relate to. Consider it a long holiday and focus on the up sides maybe? Surely, blogging helps? Hope you cope up with the transition soon. :)

  3. Being a SAHM is the biggest challenge,Ramya. I've been one and I know how it feels to quit working and be at home with no home help wahtsoever. Yet, my presence has been a blessing for my child. I would suggest create a structure to your day and spend time with the kids but also have some time to yourself every day. Play and read to your kids but also read your books and do the things you love to do. I enjoyed every minute at home with my son and still do. We have a wonderful bond which is because we spent quality time together. Of course, my choice to be a SAHM was a personal one so I think If I had to do it all over again, I would still be a SAHM than a working mom although as I said earlier, it has been far more challenging to opt out of a corporate career but more fulfilling to see how my presence has actually shaped my son today as he excels in studies, art, creativity and sports. Nothing gives me more satisfaction today than the fact that I spent those crucial years with him. No pain, no gain!

  4. Mahathi, I fully understand what you are going through! In fact if it gives you any solace, I am a recent SAHM too! I am trying to settle down into some kind of routine myself. Problem is once I do settle into some activity, it becomes obsessive, so much so that I get busier at home than if I was at office....now go figure! Don't think about it too much, I guess it'll get better with time...but sigh...I do miss my gossip sessions and office pals!

  5. I worked in the public school system for many years, then I decided to stay at home with my children. Now my oldest is 14 and it's still a work in progress. I have learned there will always be good days and bad days. It was important for me to recognize the need for me to find an outlet for myself, a niche that was mine. It's hard, but I found it to be worth it.
Now my life finds me home with 4 kids on a daily basis, it has it's challenges and blessings. You will find your rhythm, stay strong!

  6. I suffer from this too....only that I am a stay-at-home mom and think I should work....but not now.....I wish to work when the kids are grown up a little more....I feel empty too when I am unable to devote some quality time with my own self....I think we all need that to keep ourselves sane Mahathi...

  7. Being a stay at home Mom is hard work, and one of the most under-appreciated jobs out there! A working Dad can come home and relax, because his work day is over, but for a Mom, the work day never ends! However I assume it gets easier as the kids grow up, so hang in there!

  8. Though I don't have children I've been at home for 10 years now and enjoyed it. However, I recently started going to work about 3 times a week - because I felt the need to socialize more. Like the others have said, you have to evolve a routine. Good luck with that, Mahathi.

  10. I have never stayed at home and I feel must be hard. But at the same time if it is for a reason then the will to do so should override the initial frustration. Plan your day, use it for family and yourself, have a schedule and follow it. Hugs!

  11. Oh, I have and am now doing it too. After 15 years of a successful marketing career....but this time I was prepared. I have my travel writing and my fitness schedule to keep up to. Added to that the marketing projects that i keep taking of and on. So yes, I am at home but busy and that is what makes all the difference.
